What Is Lesoel 72?
Lesoel 72 is an emergency contraceptive (morning-after pill) used when contraception was not used or failed.
It contains 1.5 mg of the active ingredient levonorgestrel, the same ingredient and dosage as prescription levonorgestrel tablets. When taken within 72 hours after intercourse, it can help prevent pregnancy.
However, it does not prevent pregnancy with 100% certainty.
Who Is It For?
It is intended for those who are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy after intercourse such as:
- Contraception was not used
- The condom broke or slipped off
- Withdrawal was used
- A birth control pill was missed
- A contraceptive device was not used correctly
There is no age restriction, but it is intended for those who menstruate and may become pregnant.
Indications and Effects (How It Works)
Norlevo is thought to prevent pregnancy mainly by delaying or inhibiting ovulation. It may also work by preventing fertilization.
It does not terminate an existing pregnancy. It also does not provide contraceptive protection if taken before intercourse.
Dosage and Administration
Take one tablet within 72 hours of intercourse that may have resulted in pregnancy. Since its effectiveness may decrease as time passes, it is important to take it as soon as possible.
It can be taken regardless of meals.
Precautions and Side Effects
The following symptoms may occur after taking it:
- Nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea
- Headache, drowsiness, dizziness
- Irregular bleeding
- Menstruation occurring earlier or later than usual
- Malaise, fatigue, breast pain
It must not be taken by those who are pregnant, have severe liver disease, or have previously experienced an allergic reaction to any of its ingredients.
If you are breastfeeding, avoid breastfeeding for at least 24 hours after taking the medication and discard any breast milk expressed during that time. Inform the pharmacist when purchasing if you have any medical conditions under treatment or are taking any medications or supplements.
What Should I Do in These Situations?
If you vomit within 2 hours of taking the medication
The medication may not have been sufficiently absorbed. Do not take an additional dose on your own; consult a medical institution.
If more than 72 hours have passed since intercourse
Norlevo cannot be used.
Consult an obstetrician-gynecologist or other medical institution as soon as possible.
If bleeding occurs after taking the medication
Bleeding alone cannot determine whether contraception was successful. Use a pregnancy test three weeks after taking the medication or consult a medical institution.
If your period is more than 7 days late
Since pregnancy is possible, use a pregnancy test and consult a medical institution.
Please note that the medication does not provide contraceptive protection for intercourse occurring after it is taken. Continue to use condoms or other appropriate contraception after taking it.
